SRI2022 Programme Announced

The 2022 Sustainability Research and Innovation Congress Programme is now available.

SRI2022 is the second edition of the world’s largest gathering dedicated to transdisciplinary research and innovation in sustainability. This congress will feature workshops, innovation demonstrations, networking and special events, plenaries, an idea market, and much more in its diverse programme. With nearly 200 sessions, the program of SRI2022 will double from the inaugural Congress, showcasing the newest advances in sustainability science and demonstrating ground-breaking work to translate knowledge to action.

“I am excited by the growth in demand for a global convening that crosses disciplinary and sectoral boundaries and encourages knowledge-based action on sustainability," says Erica Key, Future Earth US Global Hub Director and SRI2022 Executive Committee member.

By emphasising diversity, accessibility, and action, SRI2022 makes a break with most scientific conferences designed to advance scientific research.

“SRI2022 is the place where you can have conversations you would not have anywhere else,” says Nicole Arbour, the Executive Director of the Belmont Forum, and also member of the SRI2022 Executive Committee. “We want you to leave inspired, with new ideas, perspectives, and connections.”

Bringing SRI to Africa is an opportunity to highlight African science and innovation and design a truly future-oriented meeting. 60% of Africa’s population is under 25 - and there is also a great deal of innovative and creative talent on that continent. Four main themes define SRI2022: African science and innovation, different ways of knowing, nexus issues, and new horizons. A significant portion of the sessions addresses issues relevant to Africa.

According to Stephanie Burton, Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Pretoria and at the Future Africa Institute, who represents the host in the SRI2022 Executive Committee, "SRI2022 brings together networks of people who are interested in the challenges which Africa faces and interested in working cooperatively to address those challenges.”

“It’s time to flip the narrative about Africa and showcase the world class innovation and research that is emerging from the continent,” summarizes Uzma Alam, Co-chair of the SRI2022 Program Committee.
