Wayne Twine (PhD) is an associate professor in the School of Animal, Plant and Environmental Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand. He is permanently based at the Wits Rural Campus in Limpopo Province, where he manages a research programme focussing on human-environment relationships and sustainability in densely populated rural communal areas. He is also the Director of the Wits Knowledge Hub for Rural Development. His training is in ecology and conservation biology, but he has 20 years of experience in conducting research that crosses disciplinary boundaries. His work draws on theoretical frameworks, methodologies and collaborators from other disciplines including sociology, demography and public health.
