Work and Research

My central research focus is on understanding virus-host interactions specifically the interaction of lyssaviruses with bats by emphasis on the innate immune response. Lyssaviruses cause the acute encephalitic disease rabies and is considered a significant concern for animal and public health with more than 59 000 human fatalities reported annually and is considered to be the 7th most important infectious disease globally.
