Work and Research

I am a lecturer and researcher at the Centre for Augmentative and Alternative Communication. My research is focused on individuals with communication disabilities who have been victims of crime and their rights to access the criminal justice system. My interest is the vocabulary implications for a person who has a communication disability and how we can assist this person to testify in court as a witness. My Phd research aims to develop multi-systemic modus operandi for court accommodations for persons with communication disabilities who have been victims of crime

My vision for the future of research at UP and how I will contribute to this development

I believe as a researcher that our research should reach the community and more importantly, make an impact on and transform our community. I believe that UP’s research focus on vulnerable populations can assist us as young researchers to provide meaningful, transformative research that will make a difference in South Africa. My research is focused on a vulnerable and marginalized population that needs assistance and awareness on how to access our South African criminal justice system. More importantly my research is focused on the importance of knowing your human and constitutional rights, and I believe that my research can provide effective and ground-breaking research outputs not only for UP but also for this vulnerable population in South African and therefore, giving a voice to the voiceless.
